August 20 - August 26
Monday: Course Introductions and AUP
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
- All students and their parents signed the district's electronic acceptable use policy when they registered for their classes.
- Students are only to use the computers at school for educational purposes.
- Posting in a class forum or discussion group is different from posting in a discussion group outside of school. Make sure your postings are positive and constructive never flame, spam or mock other students.
- Only post pictures that are appropriate for class (If the clothes the person is wearing would not pass the dress code, then don't post them).
Assignments
Line 1:
- You are going to download the image of the Mario Mushroom.
- We are going to learn how to create line art from a photograph.
- Follow the directions on how to use Photoshop to create Line Art.
- Open the Mario Mushroom in Photoshop
- Desaturate the Image (Images -> Adjustments -> Desaturate).
- Remove the details (Filter -> Stylize -> Find Edges).
- Adjust Brightness and Contrast to clean up the image (Image -> Adjustment-> Brightness / Contrast)
- Adjust the canvas size: Image -> Canvas Size->Click Relative ->add inches to the height and width.
- Use the Text Tool (T) and add a title: Line.
- Make sure the Title and Graphic are Aligned (Use Ruler Guides).
- Save the image as both a jpeg (or gif) and as a Photoshop PSD file.
- Upload your jpeg version of the Line Art Mario Mushroom to this Assignment.
Line 2:
- Find your own image and convert it to a line art.
- Use these step by step directions on this weeks page.
- Upload the jpeg version of the line art image to this assignment.
When you are done you should have two images attached to this assignment.

20pts
- Open Photoshop
- Open completed line design
- Edit/Save a Copy/ of line design
- Save As/ shape in the Graphic Design folder on your H drive
- File/Open
- Simple Directions: Omit all detail inside design with eraser / or use the brush tool with a while stroke color
- Better Directions:
- Using the Magic Wand tool (W), click on the negative space to select the background.
- Under the Section Menu, Select the Inverse Command. Now the Mushroom is selected.
- Zoom onto the border of the Mushroom (Alt - Scroll wheel) and notice that the selection (marching ants) are on the outside of the border. If we delete the selection now, it will delete the whole image! Count how many pixels thick is the outer border of your image.
- Go under the Select Menu and choose the command Modify -> Contract.
- Type in the number of the thickness for your border (it was 4 pixels on my image).
- Hit the delete key on the keyboard to delete all the inner lines of your line art.
- You can use the paint bucket to fill your shape white.
- Click text tool, then click on document and bring up text box
- Set size to 80 pt. and select desired font...type "Shape"...click OK
- Use move tool to place text very close to drawing
- Save as psd file.
- Save as jpeg and upload to the Shapes Assignment.
-Repeat this assignment for both the Mario Mushroom and your own line assignment.
-Upload both files to this assignment (worth ten points each for a total of 20 points)
Visit Google Classroom and upload your files from the Line and Shape assignments. You will complete the demo (Mario Mushroom) and one other image.
